This is a very unusual antique copper cheese making curds colander - strainer. Circa - dated. 1802. It is completely hand made - hand wrought in heavy gauge solid copper. Multiple piece construction with copper rivet fasteners. It has no maker or origin marks but I purchased it on one of my recent picking adventures in the hershey pennsylvania region - dairy cow capital USA & home of the hershey chocolate factory. The handle bears the date 1802 and most likely original owners initials ? K a t. It is in untouched - as as survived over the years condition. It has obviously been used extensively as it became so worn that the front of the scoop has had some interesting very old reconstruction - repairs - these can best be seen in the last 2 photographs in this listing. It has a nice natural aged patina but it could certainly be polished if so desired.
It is quite heavy weighing over 1 1/2 pounds.
Large scale - it measures 10 3/4 inches long X 3 1/4 inches tall X 7 1/2 inches wide.
