A remarque - a … Read more Released in Victorian Era England, this large signed Re-Marque is titled "Country Clients, " from 1905.
A remarque - a proof signed by the artists to assure its authenticity - is based on an original oil painting by British aristocratic genre scene painter Walter Dendy Sadler (1854-1923) who loved to satirize the rich. In "Country Clients", Sadler and British artist James Dobie detail the humorous scene of a much younger wife inquiring about her husband's estate. This was part of a series of socially observant-themed art by Sadler.
Both artists signed in the plate.
Signature on lower left: Walter Dendy-Sadler. Signature on the lower right: James Dobie. Housed in a burled wood frame with a gilded border and an off-white French mat.
