A pair of very stylish porcelain plates by Piero Fornasetti, having a malachite design on yellow ground and a striking central motif, in high karat gold, of a decanter to one plate and a cup & saucer to the other. The graphic style of the objects are after antique engraving prints, artfully expressed with cross hatched lines in black over contrasting glossy gilding. Marked “Stoviglie Fornasetti Milano Made in Italy” to both plates.
Hugely talented and prolific artist/designer, Piero Fornasetti (1913-1988) studied engraving and printing techniques at early stages of his career, the design style of these plates reflect his interest and knowledge of the medium.
