2 Early 1800's French framed and matted original copperplate engraving of 2 birds on a verge type hand laid paper. Colored by hand. The frames are in a gold oak cluster pattern.
Each print originates from the book 'Oeuvres completes de Buffon precedees d'une notice sur la vie et les ouvrages de l'auteur, par M. Cuvier.', published by H.R. Duthilloeul with H. Tarlier, Brussels, 1822.
Artists and Engravers: Author: Georges-Louis Le Clerc, Comte de Buffon (1707-1788).
French naturalist, mathematician, biologist, cosmologist and author. Buffon's views influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Charles Darwin. Engraved by l'Epine after de Jacques de Seve (active 1744-1788).
