A stunning vintage Chinese four-panel lacquered Coromandel screen adorned with hard-stone inlay, depicting an intricately carved courtyard scene. Delicate young female figures, two elder male figures in flowing traditional robes, and a serene water landscape with architectural elements come to life in soft, muted tones against a striking black lacquered background. A refined floral and geometric border frames each panel, enhancing its elegance.
Each panel measures 72” high and 18” wide.
The term "Coromandel" refers to Chinese lacquerware, a meticulous craft where screens were coated with up to thirty layers of lacquer. These exquisite pieces gained their name from the Coromandel Coast of India, where they were shipped to Europe, prized for their artistry and opulence.
