This Really is a Great Looking and Very Unusual Unsuasl Light Rust Tectured Antique American Blue Decorated Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. LARGE 5 GALLON SIZE - Measuring Approx 16 inches Tall x 12 1/2 inches Wide - Long. Circa Late 19th Century. The Body is Done in a Sandy Greige Color Salt Glaze with a Very Unusual Somewhat Textured Light Rust Color Over Glaze at the Top Half and Handle Areas Giving is a Wonderful and Unique Look. It has No Maker Mark but Based on my Experience the The Front is Hand Decorated with a Large Blue Hand Decorated Stylized "Stinger" Design that also includes the Number "5" Confirming its Five Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It has No Maker Mark but in My Opinion it is Ohio - Michigan - Iowa - Indiana Region. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. Jugs such as these were used to store a variety liquids such as Ciders - Vinegar - Liquors - Spirits Etc. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. It is in Exceptionally Nice All Original Condition - Displays Beautifully. There is a Large Brown Glaze Drip on the Left Side and a Pock Mark - Surface Chip with a Stain on the Back but Both of These are Kiln Flaws - Would have Occurred in the Making - Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces such as These were Fired in Very Large Kilns - Stacked in Different Layers with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time - These types of Flaws and Other are Quite Common. It has No Cracks - No Damage - No Repairs.
It Measures Overall Approx. 16 inches Tall x 11 1/2 inches Long - Wide.
