This is a finely hand woven fragment of an antique tribal Caucasian Kilim. High knot count per square inch (see last photo). This textile (rug) fragment is extremely vibrant despite he fact that it is over 100 years old. The vegetable based dyes used in the antique rugs hold up far better than newer rugs using chemical dyes. Great for a wall hanging or for a piece of framed art, a handbag or a book/computer bag or for a pillow or other accessory. Dimensions; Apprx. 26" x 23" (slightly irregular). An absolutely beautiful antique textile fragment.
A kilim is a flat tapestry-woven carpet or rug traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, including Iran, Azerbaijan, the Balkans and the Turkic countries of Central Asia. Kilims can be purely decorative or can function as prayer rugs.(Wikipedia)
The Caucasus, or Caucasia, is an area between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea and mainly occupied by Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Russia. (Wikipedia)
