If you've got the mortar, I have the pestle! There are so many mortars out there, and so few pestles. It's nice to have both. Here is your opportunity to marry this large scale pestle, 9.25 inches, to that lonely mortar in your collection. It is European for sure but hard to say definitively exactly which country it is from.Beautifully cast with a raised band at center shaft, and clearly put to good use by the apothecary.
I purchased it many years ago from Frances Pratt, collector of early European antiques and works of art, mostly Spanish and Italian. I was hoping I would find a mate for it someday, but I am now downsizing. I pass the baton (pestle) on to you.
9.25 inches by 1.5 diameter.
Provenance: Frances Pratt, Writer, Artist, Collector. New York City.
