This stunning English scuttle box is a magnificent example of functional artistry, beautifully blending practicality with decorative design elements. Crafted from durable iron, this scuttle box features an elegant, curvaceous form that epitomizes the Victorian era’s appreciation for ornate details. Based on its mark it was crafted on June 17th, 1863.
The coal box has two hinged lids with glass surfaces, underneath which are images of Ancient Greek statues surrounded by pattern of shiny gold foil. The lid has a maker's mark inside. Inside the box, there is a metal lining. On top, two ornate lions hold a porcelain handle for carrying. The handle has chips on the edges. On the side, there's a pocket for ash shovel, which also has a porcelain handle. Since the coal box is heavy, it has four wheels at the bottom, making it easy to move around the space.
Whether displayed by the fireplace or as a unique decorative accent, this coal scuttle box is sure to captivate and enhance any space with its timeless elegance.
