Abstract expressionist drawing by artist Bruce Boice (born New Jersey, 1941). Oil pastel and color pencil on paper, signed, dated and titled "Bowery 2."
After graduating from Colgate (1961), he attended Hartford University in Connecticut. In the early 1970s, he was an art critic, appearing frequently in Artforum. After a career in New York as a working artist, many shows at the Sonnabend Gallery and teaching at the School of Visual Art; he now resides in France. His wife was postmodern photographer Jan Groover (1943-2012).
MOMA acquired a polymer painting in 1975 followed by The Metropolitan Museum adding an oil and work on paper (similar to this one) to the collection in 1977. The Whitney acquiring an oil on canvas in 1978. In 1984, he was the subject of a one man show at the Corcoran in Washington, DC.
