Gold ground, wine-red scene — a horse and driver caught mid-gallop, the kind of pastoral vignette that's been telling the same story since the late 1700s.

This is toile de Jouy in the "Hivers" pattern, the winter chapter of a design tradition that started outside Paris in the workshops of Christophe-Philippe Oberkampf. The single-scene, single-color printing style became shorthand for French country elegance across Europe, and this piece carries that same instantly-recognizable language, worked in rich red on a warm gold ground.

The construction
