19th century Chinese Carved Chicken Bone, Horn, and Turquoise Snuff Bottles. The use of chicken bone on snuff bottles is quite rare and unique. Bottles are small in size and have have turquoise stoppers, two are connected to long diminutive metal spoons. Two have smooth surfaces with metal rim around stopper while other(black) is delicately carved with flowers and vase, and ram's head on either side. Snuff bottles were used to hold powdered snuff, which was inhaled through the nose. This practice became popular in China during the Qing Dynasty. Snuff bottles were both functional and decorative, often carried by the elite and used in social settings.
