Gerald Leslie Brockhurst RA (1890 - 1978) it is known by several titles including "Head of a Girl" and "Siena." The subject is Anais Melisande Folin, his first wife. Pencil signed and signed in the plate.
Brockhurst was a well known portrait painter and etcher whose subjects included Merle Oberon and Marlene Dietrich, as well as the Duchess of Windsor, whose husband commissioned her portrait. He was a Royal Academician (UK), a member of the Society of Graphic Art and National Academy of Design (US) associate member.
Brockhurst's prints and paintings can be found in the collections of museums and institutions all over the world including the Detroit Institute of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, St. Joseph University Art Museum, National Galleries of Scotland, the Met, MOMA and Bowdoin College Museum of Art, among others.
