Two 19th century Chinese Carved Turquoise Snuff Bottles. Bottles are small in size and have have turquoise stoppers connected to long diminutive metal spoons. One has smooth surface with metal rim around stopper while other is delicately carved with birds, flowers, and fauna. Snuff bottles were used to hold powdered snuff, which was inhaled through the nose. This practice became popular in China during the Qing Dynasty. Snuff bottles were both functional and decorative, often carried by the elite and used in social settings.
