This really is a Beautiful Example of a Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Spirits Jug. Circa Mid 19th Century - Approx 1870s. It is Embossed with a Number 2 Indicating its Two Gallon Storage Capacity. It is also Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker "WEST TROY POTTERY" Company of Up State New York. It is Rendered in a "Beehive" Form and it has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Exceptionally Nice Gracefully and Well Executed Hand Decorated Cobalt Blue Posing Bird Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. In addition These Types of Stoneware Items were Completely Hand Made on a Potters Wheel Making Them Each One of a Kind. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. It is in Excellent All Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has a Very Small Chip at the Spout. It has No Cracks & No Repairs. It has Some Light Age and Use Acquired Glaze Color Variations. It also has a Couple Surface Glaze Spots at the Lower Back Area Base Perimeter Area. These are Quite Common in this Type of Stoneware Pieces and Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time so These and Other Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
