This example is the perfect accent chair which was originally made for a child during the last decades of the 19th century. Before the age of mass production every item found in the home was expertly crafted by a tradesman who took great pride in whatever they built. The frame of the chair is primarily made of maple with elements featuring figured tiger maple grain as well. The stretchers are made of a hardwood that could perhaps be hickory however it is not readily apparent exactly what wood was used. Every joint is sturdy and overall the entire frame is strong however we suggest that this chair is better off as an accent piece versus something that is used regularly. The frame has subtle turned accents along with two well pronounced finials to either side. There are two ladderback formed supports intended to prop up the sitter while they are in the chair. The seat is fashioned with a four way rush woven design that is in great overall condition. Beneath the chair frame are two curved gliders which allow the piece to rock back and forth. The chair measures 14 1/4" wide x 18 1/2" deep x 24" tall with a 9" tall seat height. See less
