Instant 78 volume library of English novels! We were fortunate enough to have acquired a comprehensive collection of novels written by Jean Plaidy, aka Victoria Holt and other noms de plume, from the estate of an avid reader and English history enthusiast. The books were sourced across two continents, North America and Europe where the family lived; all are written in the English language.
The assortment consists of 18 hardcover and 60 softcover volumes (primarily) of the historical fiction genre. Most are based on Royals of the UK, combining English history with fictional storylines.
The author, a native Londoner, whose real name was Eleanor Alice (Burford) Hibbert (1906-1993), wrote more than 200 books under various pen-names: In 1945, she took on the name "Jean Plaidy", Inspired by Cornwall's Plaidy Beach where she and her husband lived during WWII. In all, she penned 91 Jean Plaidy fiction books (and four non-fiction). Our offering contains most of the former. Under a less well known alter-ego, Victoria Holt, she wrote an additional 31 historical fiction stories. Some of those are also represented in this collection.
Not only were her books popular with the public, they were lauded by critics for their historical accuracy, writing technique, and richness of detail. Her research was so extensive that she was given carte blanche access to the entire collection of the Kensington (London) Central Library, being allowed to check out (from the vault) restricted copies by the trolley-full. Each Jean Plaidy novel contains a bibliography of sources used in her research of the book.
For brevity's sake, we have not cited each of the books in the collection but should you want such a list, we'd be happy to provide it. Just message us under the "Message the Seller" link on this listing.
