Likely … Read more A hugely impressive, possibly unique and strikingly captivating Brutalist wrought iron hand-forged high-back statement chair in lovely vintage condition. Likely British-made in the last quarter of the 20th Century, this highly charismatic accent chair packs a lot of punch into its minimalist frame and will add a powerful olde-worlde throne-like aesthetic to any interior – although a brightly painted seat would completely transform it and offer a totally different statement.

Reassuringly heavy, this stunning chair was beautifully hand-crafted from forged and hammered wrought iron and features a magnificently grand Viking-throne-style high back. The crest rail is formed from two pairs of interesting Byzantine-style two-barred crosses, creating a charismatic, minimalist silhouette of bygone significance and grandeur.

This formidable throne chair has a removable black-painted handmade three-plank pine trapezoid seat which sits in the frame and works wonderfully in creating a medieval, rustic composition. But it could easily be painted a different colour to really make it ‘pop’ and transform it from an austere ‘Highlander’ piece to a more playful ‘Barbie’ one – just imagine the creative statement an electric pink or blue seat would make – unique wow-factor à gogo!

All in all this is a hugely impressive, extremely rare and decorative statement chair, which won’t fail to make an incredible impact wherever and however it’s used.

CONDITION
This is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound, reassuringly heavy and built to last, the wrought iron frame shows only minor to-be-expected wear and the seat has some wear to the paint and slight warping to the end planks. The wear only adds to its rustic vintage appeal and as it’s more of a decorative than sitting chair, the slight warping to the seat doesn’t detract from its wow-factor-statement appeal. Overall it’s an incredible, rare accent chair in lovely condition and if well looked after it should remain so for many generations to come – please see the photos.
