additional information:
the armchair (model no. 721) represents a clear advancement of wagner’s model no. 718. The backrest and saddle-shaped seat are made of perforated plywood. It appeared in the jacob & josef kohn supplementary catalog in 1903 and in the catalog of the k.u.k. Austrian exhibition in london in 1906. This chair is among the first examples of jacob & josef kohn’s patented plywood processing technique, which allowed for the insertion of holes and ornaments into the wood (patent no. 13517, may 15).
the model was specifically designed for the dispatch office of the newspaper “die zeit” and is considered a museum piece. It is currently exhibited at the leopold museum in vienna, museumsplatz 1, 1070 vienna (inventory number 4158).
