The screen stands tall, its wood frame dark, intricately carved with floral motifs. The panels are made of silk and a finely woven fabric, their background is a deep cobalt blue bordered with a golden yellow lower panel and outer frame. Dominating one panel and spreading gracefully across several—is a resplendent peacock, hand-sewn with exquisite craftsmanship. Its body is embroidered in deep sapphire and emerald threads, with fine gold and silver and sparking pink filaments catching the light as it moves. The feathers fan out in a sweeping arc, each eye spot stitched with meticulous detail with amazing thread work that combines to give texture and depth. Some feathers are slightly raised, lending a subtle three-dimensional quality. Other features include 3 other tropical birds, bees and asian script. The birds all stand upon a beautiful garden with blooming cherry blossoms and peonies, all delicately embroidered in traditional Asian techniques, most likely Japanese. The entire scene evokes serenity and opulence, blending natural beauty with symbolic elements—peacocks often representing immortality, nobility, or beauty in Asian cultures. The bottom of one of the panels has very slight staining, and there is also a small hole in one of the panels, both are noted and marked in the photos, please do not hesitate to ask any questions about this.
