Rare, mid-19th century European Louis XV style giltwood painting frame. This substantial and beautifully carved frame has rocaille adornments at the corners and centers of the serpentine molding, featuring scrolling floral and foliate, and shell motifs. Additional carved trim surrounds the interior edge. Frame has some minor losses that can easily be remediated (please see photos).
The frame is wired and ready to hang, perfect for a large scale artwork or mirror.
