The chair is peg … Read more We're pleased to offer for sale this wonderful 18th century antique Queen Anne ladder back chair. The chair is peg joined and has a curved three slat back with an arched design that plateaus at the middle. The rear stiles have finely formed ball finials and the original scribe marks are still present on the stiles. When examining 18th century chairs, it’s important to take a closer look at where the finials meet the stiles. Oftentimes this hard-to-reach area will show evidence of any refinishing, and if the finials are not continuous from the stiles, they are either likely replaced or the chair is a reproduction. The woven splint seat does have some minor loss & cracks in a few of the strands, but the chair was able to comfortably hold my weight at 180 pounds. We would still recommend exercising a bit of caution and reminding any family or guests that this is a 200 year old chair and not to plop down in the chair so forcefully. The chair measures 19” wide x 14” deep x 40 1/4” tall with a 15 1/4” seat height. See less
