It … Read more This is a Great Looking and Very Unusual Antique American Primitive Stoneware Liquid Storage Jug. Circa Late 19th Century. It is Not Marked but it is Rendered in the 1 Gallon Capacity Size. It has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front is Embossed - Reads "ORIENTAL CONDENSED COFFEE" ( Coffee Flavor Extracts). Note That it Also Has Nice Blue Under Glaze Highlights to Accentuate The Lettering. Back in the day these type of jugs were on loan to customers from Retail & Wholesale Merchants such as Liquor, Druggists, Dry Goods & Grocery Stores, Etc. They could Then be Used and Refilled when Needed. It is in Excellent All Original Condition - Strong and Sound - Displays Nicely. Minor Imperfections Noted - 2 Small Chips at the Top Spout Perimeter. It also has a Few Various Surface Glaze Imperfections but These are Quite Common and Absolutely Would have Occurred Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most Of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made For Everyday - Utilitarian Use. In Addition note that These Types of Stoneware Items were Individually & Completely Hand Made on a Potters Wheel Etc.
It Measures Overall Approx 11 inches Tall x 7 1/4 Inches Long - Wide.
