RENE COUTURIER
As a gifted and expressive colorist, Couturier gives the surface of his canvases an extraordinary jewel-like quality that illuminates his sure and elegant sense of composition. Whether he is painting open vistas or still lifes, the artist creates a subtle intimacy with a spontaneous gesture, vigorous texture and robust linear networks. The sensitivity with which these powerful elements are combined reflect remarkable discipline in an intense artistic spirit.
The excellence of Rene Couturier's talent has commanded international interest in the artist's unique and powerful paintings, drawings and graphic works. Born in 1933 in Dieppe on the coast of Normandy, Couturier attended the renowned L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Marseilles. Since completing his studies, the artist has lived in Mexico, the United States, Africa and France. His work appears in exhibitions throughout the continents of Europe, North America and Africa.
