In the first three decades of the 20th Century, Shanghai was the Paris of the East. This time ran simultaneously as the Art Deco Period, which greatly influenced the style of furniture that furnished many Western Style houses built for Europeans and noveau riche Chinese. This table is one the art deco pieces I found on my shopping trips. The photos illustrating the table were taken inside and outside. The same table shows up much darker are the interior photos, and the ones taken outside show the table as it stands today.
The table with the hexagonal top is supported by three openwork patterns with the art deco lattice work design. The open spaces alternate with the lattice patterns supporting a shelf.
I do not have much knowledge of European influence on colonial furniture made in Shanghai for the Western market. But through Google I find this table to be a take-off from Edwardian Period furniture (Edwardian Period 1901 to 1914) which coincided with the time of the Boxer Rebellion and China lost, opening Shanghai to the European powers.
