The … Read more Offering yet another fine example of a French hand-wrought iron mirror frame from the 20th Century teens or twenties. The attractive diamond shape is unusual and in this instance decorated with gingko leaves, a motif chosen by top designers of the period. The patina is original and in excellent condition -- a deep brown/black, typical of wrought iron finishes of the era. The patina’s been enhanced and protected by the application of a dark brown paste wax. The mirror’s bevel is substantial and hand-wrought, showing a good half inch, greatly enhancing the mirror’s overall beauty. As you can see there are only a few very small (humidity) marks on the silvering, which show up as small black dots.

There are two loops on either side of the mirror because it (probably) originally had a nice wide decorative hanging device (belt or wire) which would have traveled through both loops and ended with a knot and tassel. It will have a single plastic-coated wire especially made for hanging pictures or mirrors installed, employing only the top loops. If you can find a couple of good French tassels, you can hang them from the bottom loops.

Dimensions: about 29 5/8 wide, 14 1/2 high (add one inch total to the width for the loops on the sides which hold the hanging wire). There are no scratches on the surface of the glass. See less
