Offered is an extra large hand-painted and burnished glaze vintage late 1950s, or early 1960s ceramic owl figurine made in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, a province renowned for its earth-tone clay and for all the pottery and ceramic art created since the 1950s. While we have found and treasured many of these, ranging from 2 inches tall to approximately 6 inches, this one is extremely large and very charming.
Measures approximately 14.25" W x 6.75" D x 13.875" H and is created with predominantly earth-tones - a tan/cafe-au-lait background and decorated in black, brown, paprika, and gray, depicting the flower native to the region on the rear. There is no label or maker's mark.
