This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Country Primitive Stoneware Storage Crock. Circa Late 19th Century - 1870s. With Side Handles - "Ears". It has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior. The Interior is Done in a Dark Coffee Brown Color. The Front has a Large - Outstanding Deep Blue Hand Decorated Bird & Branch Design. It is Embossed with the Well Documented Massachusetts Makers Name - "FRANK B. NORTON WORCESTER MASS" It is Also Embossed with the Number 2 Denoting it Two Gallon Storage Capacity. Back in the These Types of Crocks were Made for Utilitarian Purposes and were a Necessity in Most Homes and Farms. They were Commonly Used to Store a Variety Food and Other Items. In addition These Stoneware Items were Completely Hand Made Making Them Each One of a Kind. It is in Excellent Condition - Displays Beautifully. It is Strong - Sound & Perfectly Usable. Very Minor Imperfections Noted. It has a Couple Minor Chips on the Bottom Surface Perimeter as a Result of Normal Use. It Also has a Very Small Surface 1 inch Hairline at Base Below Left Side Handle - This is Clearly Under the Glaze and Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. These Can be Seen in Some of the Photographs in my Listing. These Types of Minor Flaws are Quite Common with Antique Stoneware Pieces. Note that Stoneware Items were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Cosmetic Production Imperfections are Quite Common. No Repairs or Restorations.
It Measures Overall Approx 9 1/4 inches Tall x 10 inches Long x 10 inches Wide.
