Made by silversmith … Read more Offered is a rare decorative plate in Isolite (Swedish Bakelite) with a ship in Silver intarsia inlay. Made by silversmith Wilhelmina Wendt, Perstorp, dated 1954 (D9). Swedish Art Deco. Wilhelmina Wendt (1896 – 1988), known as Tiddit, was the first woman in Sweden to be granted the title of "master silversmith". She is mainly know for her designs where she combined her father's black insulation material "isolit" with her own silver designs, she called the artifacts "silverisolit". The company invented Isolite in 1917, and as with Bakelite and Couroc's Phenolic resin, it was both attractive and sturdy. It was used in the electric industry, and later airline and automotive industries. In the 1930s, Wilhelmina began to create her line of decorative items including sterling silver inlay. This piece features a ship with a Swedish flag at the stern. By the 1950s the company was refocusing on industrial endeavors, and phased out the decorative collections. Finding a piece of Perstorp is rare.
