Baskets of this nature were all the rage in the mid to late mid-century! While designed for use as a picnic basket, this beauty’s size is perfect for use as a sewing or light craft storage basket or to simply display as a décor accent. The frame has been handwoven with natural rattan stakes and weavers in an over and under design. The outer border rail of the basket’s base and hinged top integrates an all-around twisted and braided willow trim. Valise-style double handles have been wrapped in rattan weavers, as has the lip of the basket and the lid’s lower lip; double frog latches on the left and right side provide secure closure of the top. On the interior you will find bent rattan rods that serve as architectural support frame which allows the basket to keep its shape and provides snug closure. Colors are naturally aged earth tone hues. It measures 6¼” high when lying flat and 11½” high when in an upright position; width 15¾” x 10¾” depth; interior 15½” x 10” x 4” W/D/H; weight 1 lb. 6 oz. In excellent condition with minimal wear. Handcrafted in Hong Kong by an unknown basket artisan in the mid 20th-century. For a basket aficionado, this beauty should be a must have or the perfect gift for someone who is!
