Toko Shinoda (1913-2021) was a Japanese artist who specialized in abstract sumo ink paintings. While she embraced the mid century abstract expressionism of New York, her works reflect a blend of traditional calligraphy with abstract expressionism. She was also a prolific writer, and published 20 books. This hand colored lithograph reflects her signature style. It is signed, titled, dated and editioned in pencil by the artist. This work consists 35 pieces of which this is numbered 34. Printed by K. Kimura with a blind stamp on the lower left corner.
