William & Mary furniture was popular during the early-mid 18th century, many surviving chairs from that period—now nearly 300 years old—are too fragile for everyday use and serve more as display pieces than functional seating. This chair, made in the late 19th century, retains the classic William & Mary design but offers greater durability than its 18th-century counterparts. The chair is peg joined in the traditional manner and features a four-banister back, round stiles, a scalloped crest, and elegantly turned mushroom finials. The armrests of the chair have a subtle curve, providing both a pleasing aesthetic and comfort. The woven cane seat is in excellent condition free of any damage, and the seven stretchers at the base add stability, ensuring the chair remains strong and sturdy for many years to come. The chair measures 24 1/4” wide x 19 3/4” deep x 46 1/2” tall. The seat measures a generous 19 1/2” wide at the front between the arms x 16” deep with an 18 1/2” seat height. See less
