A lithograph portraying the balloonist Carl Kirsch of Dusseldorf and his assistant Mlle. Herliska L. de Bordeaux who ascended in his balloon in Bordeaux in October 1842. It was common at the time for balloonist to take on young female assistants to help with ticket sales at their events. The piece is signed by Kirsch.
