Finely balanced etching by Benjamin Vasserman (Estonian, b 1949). A squash sits atop a small black box with a latch. There is a drapery behind the squash, providing a backdrop. In the foreground of the composition, a few flowers and leaves are laid on a glassy black table. The addition of geometric shapes creates a surreal feeling, while firmly grounded in real space.
