It is an original fashion print that appeared in a Mid-Century magazine from 1948. It is NOT a recent reproduction print. It features a red caped gown by the iconic Christian Dior. (See the last photo that notes its provenance, taken from a recent book plate) It is illustrated and dated by Carl Erickson, (1891-1958) better known simply as Eric. Eric had a 35 year career in fashion illustration and despite only 2 years of formal art training, he is considered to be one of the leading fashion illustrators of the mid-century years. He worked for the most prestigious couture designers and his work appeared in Vogue magazines in New York, Paris and London. He worked with Dior, YSL, Chanel and many others. His drawings are highly collectable; they are sold today at international auction houses and are often shown in museum exhibits world wide. Their painterly quality is well known. His works are sophisticated, highly stylized, and detailed. This image is in pristine condition. RARE! It is VERY hard to find with the passage of time and is highly desirable.
