Excellent condition, Collotype in colors from a photograph by Harry Shunk & Janos Kender printed by Matthieu AG Zurich.
This is a rare first limited edition collotype print of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s 1970 project in Milan: Wrapped Monument to Leonardo da Vinci in Piazza della Scala. That fall, the monument to Leonardo and the statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II in the adjoining Piazza del Duomo were both wrapped in polypropylene fabric and tied with red rope. Visitors strolling through the Galleria could admire the two wrapped monuments at opposite ends. This collotype print, featuring the wrapped Leonardo monument, is from a photograph by Harry Shunk and Janos Kender, a renowned duo known for capturing some of the most iconic images of postwar art and artists. Among their many notable works is the famous photograph of Yves Klein "Leap Into The Void". For this particular Christo and Jeanne-Caude installation, they have produced a hauntingly beautiful image of the wrapped Leonardo monument, and the intricate collotype printing technique captures this with exceptional subtlety and nuance.
