Emil Bisttram (1895-1976) was a Hungarian American artist known for his seminal role in defining and establishing the transcendental art movement. He worked closely with artist Raymond Johnson, the founder of the Transcendental Painting Group. During the early 30s, Bisttram worked with Diego Rivera, a time in his career as an artist that ushered in his trend toward realism. This untitled graphite on paper, surrealist in style, likely dates to the mid 20th century. This work is signed in the lower right.
This work is in good original condition with wear consistent with age and use. There is some toning to the paper.
