This vintage handmade bottle form weedpot features spectacular character with its high contrast grain patterns, rustic knots, and cracks. It is a sculptural form with high interest on its own, but it would look great displaying some dried flowers.
This piece appears to be in the style of Robert Cumpston, a Colfax, Illinois artist popular in the 1970s. He used telephone poles and fence posts to design these unique and beautiful one-of-a kind hand turned weed pots or vases. The unique texture and color are the result of charring select sections of aged fence posts and telephone poles after bing individually shaped. Some pots contained marks of fence staples, nails, or lineman cracks.
