A pair of 19th century Napoleonic-era portrait engravings featuring hand-colored depictions of Hortense de Beauharnais, Queen of Holland, and Louis Desaix, a celebrated French general. Each portrait is beautifully housed in its original giltwood frame with verre églomisé glass mats, adorned with delicate hand-painted gold embellishments that enhance their historical and artistic significance. Retaining original dealer back labels from Mary B. Davis Antiques of Baltimore, indicating historic trade provenance.
Hortense de Beauharnais (1783–1837): A hand-colored engraving by Adolphe Bosmel, depicting the Queen of Holland, stepdaughter of Napoleon Bonaparte, and mother of Napoleon III. Hortense was an influential figure in European aristocracy, known for her political and artistic patronage.
Louis Desaix (1768–1800): A hand-colored etching by Adèle Ethiou, portraying Desaix, a revered general in Napoleon's army, recognized for his leadership in the Egyptian campaign and his heroic actions at the Battle of Marengo.
