This neoclassical painting represents a wide landscape of hills and a central river. In the foreground, a man and his two cows relax at the water's edge.
In the background is an old farm with a thatched roof and in the background we find a village fortified with towers and walls.
This neoclassical painting is part of the return to antiquity movement launched from 1750 by the writings of archaeologists and art lovers. The different planes are parallel to each other, with a closed space and delimited by architectural elements (columns, walls, doors, etc.), which constitutes a sort of box in which the characters and elements are inscribed like a scene from life.
Lovely painting in soft colors and intense light placed on the watercourse which illuminates the width of the canvas.
