The title of this plate is "Dr. Syntax Making a Discovery," and it includes a short verse: "Thus passing on his chance to see, beneath an overshadowing tree, Patrick engaged in amorous guise, devouring Susan with his eyes."
The hand-colored transfer shows Dr. Syntax in the distance with a shocked hand to his mouth. In the foreground we indeed see Patrick staring not so innocently at Susan from behind.
The plate has an emerald and khaki border and is marked on the back: "1911, Buffalo Pottery, Emeral Deldare Ware Underglaze" with the Buffalo Mark.".
