Useful information for evaluating the item:
From internet research, we have found that ceramics from the Icaro factory in Rhodes are extremely rare and are offered at very high prices. From a minimum of €400-500 to well over €2,000-3,000, just to give an idea of the value of this type of item.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The Icaro Rodi factory is one of the most important and famous Greek ceramic manufacturers, mainly due to the fact that with the outbreak of war in the early decades of the 20th century, many artists from Vietri of the German period moved to Rhodes and created objects of the highest artistic quality. When the war ended, almost all of them returned to Italy, but the factory continued to produce artistic objects in the Iznik style with the quality and style of the Vietri school that the workers had absorbed, a style that made it famous throughout the world. Iznik ceramics take their name from their city of origin, Iznik (ancient Nicaea) in Bithynia, in what is now northwestern Turkey, where they were produced from the 15th to the 17th century. These ceramics were characterized by their bright colors and central motifs depicting birds, peacocks, and flowers. They were generally used for wall coverings, vases, tableware, and other everyday objects, but also for decorating Christian temples. Iznik ceramics were highly prized by the Ottoman Imperial Court and wealthy families in Constantinople, while during the 19th century, they were sought after by collectors and foreign travelers.
