Porcelain picture plate with a finely painted polychrome veduta: In the centre, a view of the Viennese summer palace of Schönbrunn with its gardens, as seen from the hill opposite, with figures, framed by a border in matt and bright gold, delicately painted leaf border with stylised flowers against a white background, extensive bright gilding, including the underside of the plate, with impasto decorations on the edges, inscribed in black above the veduta on the white background: ‘Lustschloss Schönbrunn’. The baroque palace was the summer residence of the kings and emperors of the empire from the mid-18th century until the end of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 and from 1804 until the end of the First World War of the Austrian imperial family. During this time, the palace was almost continuously inhabited by a royal household comprising several hundred people and became a cultural and political centre of the Habsburg Empire. During the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, it was also known as the k. k. Lustschloss Schönbrunn (Imperial and Royal Summer Palace of Schönbrunn).
