Forged by hand in the mid-19th century, this tinned copper and iron ladle reflects the practical ingenuity of early American and Northern European metalwork. The copper bowl is hammer-raised with a rolled rim, while the interior retains its original tin lining—an essential feature for managing hot liquids, rendered fats, or embers at the hearth.
An iron strap handle, shaped and flattened at the forge, is secured with copper rivets and supported by twin twisted braces, each showing the subtle irregularity of hand forging. The handle terminates in a forged hanging ring, allowing the tool to remain within reach beside a stove or fireplace.
A robust, fully handmade example of 1850–1900 mixed-metal craftsmanship.
