A bold and enigmatic mid-century figurative portrait, executed in oil onto board and dated 1957.

The composition depicts a simplified and abstracted figure with a frontal, mask-like face. The facial features are distorted, emphasising expressive shapes and tones rather than realism. Containing elements of expressionism and abstraction, there is a strong emphasises on emotional resonance, as opposed to detailed representation.

The artist has used a palette that is earthy yet muted, with dominant tones of green, pink, and brown contrasting against a textured, light sky-blue background.

The brushwork is bold and expressive, with thick, impasto strokes that create a textured surface.

This oil on board is housed in a complementary wood frame with an inner cream border. The painting has some marks on its left side, as shown in close ups, and the frame has some scuffs to its edges.
