Sherman Foote Denton (1856-1907) was a highly skilled American illustrator of natural history, specializing in fish and sea life. He traveled widely in and outside of the United States, gaining expertise, returning from time abroad to work for the Smithsonian Institute and the United States Fish Commission, publishing these chromolithographs between 1895-1907. The deft precision of the draughtsmanship and beautiful coloring make these images quite outstanding. These prints inlcude: the Atlantic Salmon, Bluefish,White Bass, Large Mouthed Black Bass, Striped Bass and Small Mouthed Black Bass. Frames are recent, painted with hints of gilding in subtle complementary blue and grey colors, matting is cream with lovely hand painted filage surrounds.
