Item description:
A fine hard-paste porcelain vase, entirely hand-decorated with floral motifs, leaves, and birds, finished in pure gold with meticulous brushwork, then glazed in a third firing, numbered "6720" in red under the base. The vase can be dated to the late 1700s or early 19th century, between 1780 and 1830. The vase was made in full Rococo style with decorations of the highest artistic level, all executed by hand with a brush tip, a veritable small fresco on porcelain, as well as rich finishes in pure gold, not to mention the wonderful and imposing snake handles reminiscent of French vases from the 1700s.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
From internet research, we find that vases of this quality from the Coalport factory, dating from the late 1700s or early 1800s, are offered for sale from a minimum of €400-500 for the smaller ones to over €2,000-2,500 for the larger ones with complex workmanship, such as the one in our vase, which, although small, is very elaborate.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
The vase can easily be traced back to the famous English manufacturer Coalport, best known for porcelain vases and plates with similar decorations and styles. Most of the porcelain produced by this manufacturer was unsigned. Another element that leads us to attribute the vase to this manufacturer is the numbering. In fact, both the font and the slightly faded red color are characteristic of English porcelain, particularly Coalport or Derby, but between the two, we favor the latter.
This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
