Wonderful set of eleven ceramic plates from the revernay workshops, france, made around the 60's of the 20th century. The leitmotif represented in each of the pieces is the sea bream, realized in relief in a schematic way. All are created with an artisanal technique, by hand, so each one is special. The honey color is emphasized by the final glaze of the double firing, which adds shine and dynamism. It is a cheerful and highly original ensemble.
about ateliers du revernay\.
around 1896 the company utzschneider et cie created an art workshop in charge of producing artistic stoneware. This workshop is located in a place called revernay where the official residence of the director of the earthenware factory digoin is located. The first productions will be presented at the universal exhibition of 1900 in paris. They will be made with artisanal techniques, in small series and following the taste for the simplification of art and the rediscovery of nature in vogue at the time.
after world war i, production seemed to move more towards industrialization. The pieces will be put in the catalog of the parent factory's productions. Without knowing very well why, lack of adaptation to the new aspirations of society or stifling of the creators, production will stop around 1930.
at the end of the second world war, taking advantage of or accompanying the movement of young creators from the pottery centers in the south of france, the revernay workshop was reopened. A very typical earthenware was produced there. The productions will then be marked as revernay sdv or atelier d'art du revernay sdv. It seems that this new life of the art studio will be short and will not reach the 1970s.
dimensions of each plate: 25 x 25 cm.
