As a matter of fact, the famous Chinese art historian Nar Zhiliang had over hundreds of words that could be called jade, including agates, jasper, quartz, turquoise and other hardstones. This snuff bottle has been identified by the Rock Identifier App as quartz. Regardless of the material, it is a nicely made bottle in the traditional style of a flattened globular shape with two raised circles and two recessed areas on the sides. The circular form can be used as services for mixing snuff, and the fingers can rest on the recessed sides for a better hold. This features made it convenient for the user of snuff. The bottle rests on a raised oval foot and the top is flat with a small opening. The interior is hollow. It is matched with a lapis stopper encased in brass with a brass spoon. Snuff was still in vogue in the early 20th century, as well as widely collected. This dating seems appropriate. See less
