A poelle being a … Read more Ornamental copper pitcher with brass colar from the village of "Villedieu les poelles" in Normandie France. A poelle being a cooking pan.This small village on the channel sea cultivates a long tradition of hand made copper wares or "Dinanderie" . Clearly marked with a "Villedieu stamp" from the FH house. . Not so common to come across these larger pieces that are very richly crafted with a variety of details. This one offers a brass collar creating a nice contrast with the distinct hammered pattern on the copper. A true slice of French vernacular and craftsmanship. I discovered this piece in a open air "brocante" flea market near the city of Morlaix in France. In excellent condition . The previous owner polished it thoroughly and it looks brand new. These copper pieces are are a hidden sparkle for those who are willing to invest some elbow grease. I personally prefer the patina and aging of the copper. Not sure but I would guess that this one is from the late 1950's although there is a much older victorian feel to it. See less
